About

Cody Rex Chamberlain

Cody Rex Chamberlain was born and raised in Utah. He studied painting at Utah Valley University and pursued post-graduate work in anthropology and archeology at the University of Utah.

He has worked for the U.S. Forest Service and trained as a naturalist. Time spent in desert and mountain landscapes continues to shape the work.

His paintings return to mortality, weather, erosion, and the marks people leave on land. Juniper, bone, bloom, and petroglyph sites appear as things encountered, remembered, and carried back into the studio.

His work has appeared in juried exhibitions across Utah. In 2023 he was commissioned by the State of Utah for its permanent collection.

Statement

Desert, weather, mortality, and witness.

Chamberlain paints from lived landscapes. Juniper, bone, bloom, and stone appear as things encountered in the field. The work stays with the life cycle laid bare and the human habit of leaving marks on the land.
